Film Preview: Broccoli, Cubby Broccoli Season, 17 April – 19 May, Filmhouse, Edinburgh

19 Mar

Fantastic news for James Bond fans in Edinburgh: the Filmhouse have lined up screenings of remastered versions of the first seven films from Friday 17 April – Tuesday 19 May.

Celebrating the centenary of Bond producer Cubby Broccoli’s birth, this is a very rare opportunity to see some lovely new prints on the big screen.

Apart from a screening of a remastered Goldfinger on my birthday a few years back at the Filmhouse, my only other experiences of old Bond’s at the cinema (this is pre-GoldenEye) have been slightly ropey copies of Dr No, From Russia With Love and The Spy Who Loved Me at both the Filmhouse and the Cameo.

The full list of films being shown is:

  • Dr No
  • From Russia With Love
  • Goldfinger
  • Thunderball
  • You Only Live Twice
  • On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
  • Diamonds are Forever

There’s an impressive Cubby Broccoli celebration taking place in London at the BFI in April and it’s good to see Scotland getting a share of the festivities.

Visit the Filmhouse website for more information.
