Whether you know your Burns like the back of your hand or have yet to discover his work, you might want to head along to Blackwell Bookshop on South Bridge in Edinburgh on Thursday 22 January for the launch of a new Burns biography, Robert Burns: The Patriot Bard. Still not sold? Maybe the free whisky will help…?
According to the blurb, this book “explodes the myths about Scotland’s national poet, replacing the ram-stam lad of popular cliche with the real, living Burns. He is revealed as a Scottish patriot of the heart, an idealist who wished for ‘Freedom and Liberty’ for his beloved Scotland, but also a man who was pragmatically a British patriot who risked his life for democratic reform.”
The book’s author Patrick Scott Hogg will be there on the night and it sounds like a good way to celebrate Burns night.
The event is free but ticketed, email events.edinburgh@blackwell.co.uk to reserve yours.
