Theatre Preview: Nocturne, 31 July – 10 August, Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh

22 Jul

Described by its writer as a “dark piece that raises lots of questions about memory, guilt, complicity, family love and mercy”, Nocturne arrives at Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre from Thursday 31 July – Sunday 10 August fresh from a run on its home turf of London’s Almeida Theatre.

A young piano prodigy reeling from the tragic death of his younger sister flees to New York City. He takes an uneasy refuge in books and reinvents himself as a writer. Across the decade and a half that follows he tries to cope with the ramifications of the tragic accident that tears his family apart and shatters the American dream.

Nocturne is performed by acclaimed Irish actor Peter McDonald, who I know best from 1997 Irish indie film I Went Down, and written by Adam Rapp, whose play Finer Noble Gases received excellent reviews at the Fringe in 2006.
