Coming to Glasgow’s GFT from Sunday 1 – Tuesday 3 June is a season of films from Wim Wenders, a leading light of New German Cinema.
With his photographer’s eye for landscape and architecture, a fine ear for music, and a rare ability to express subtle emotions through movement, gestures and glances.
Especially successful with road movies featuring rootless, haunted loners, he established himself as one of the most distinctive European auteurs of the last 40 years. GFT screens five of his films in brand new prints:
- Alice in the Cities
- Kings of the Road
- The American Friend
- Paris, Texas
- Wings of Desire
Out of that lot I’ve only seen Wings of Desire, given away as a freebie with (I think) The Guardian a few years back. It’s a beautiful little film, the black and white imagery staying in the mind long after. And Columbo’s in it…
As ever, full details can be found over at the GFT website.
