Film Preview: Grindhouse, 5/13 April, Edinburgh Filmhouse/Cameo

4 Apr

A double whammy of a posting for a movie double bill that never was – the full, unexpurgated, as-it-was-meant-to-be-seen wonder that is Grindhouse hits the Filmhouse on Saturday 5 April and the Cameo on Sunday 13 April.

Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof were originally meant to screen together in an homage to the drive-in movies of the 1970s, the kind we in Scotland only ever saw on episodes of Happy Days.

Sadly the plan was scuppered when it was decided to release the films separately, surely destroying part of the kitsch value that was intended. A memorable cast includes Rose McGowan, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Kurt Russell, and Naveen Andrews.

You might get more of the gist from the trailer:

These screenings both present the full effect, replete with a number of specially produced trailers from directors such as Eli Roth and Edgar Wright.

Marking the first anniversary of the films’ release, this is a pretty unique chance to catch a real curio.

Catch Grindhouse at the Filmhouse on Saturday 5 April and the Cameo on Sunday 13 April.
