Edinburgh’s Filmhouse presents two classic re-releases starring Margaret Lockwood between between Friday 1 and Thursday 7 February: The Lady Vanishes and The Man in Grey.
Alfred Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes (1938) follows a group of travellers on a train bound for England who are embroiled in mystery en-route. The film has recently been remastered and by all accounts is as fresh as it was 70 years ago.
The Man in Grey (1943) is another new print and stars Margaret Lockwood as Heather, an actress whose friendship with Regency beauty Clarissa (Phyllis Calvert) is predicted to spell disaster by a fortune teller. James Mason and Stewart Granger co-star.
Both films are superb, but I’m most looking forward to The Lady Vanishes, having only seen the 1970s version on TV a few years back.
Events: The Lady Vanishes is showing at Filmhouse from Friday 1 – Tuesday 5 February, The Man in Grey on Wednesday 6 & Thursday 7 February
