Theatre Preview: The 39 Steps, 18 – 22 March, Edinburgh Festival Theatre

14 Jan

The 39 StepsNow, this looks like a jolly wheeze: a stage version of Alfred Hitchcock’s film adaptation of John Buchan’s classic adventure yarn, The 39 Steps, is coming to Edinburgh from 18 – 22 March.

Never mind that there are 150 roles and only four actors, this part-spoof spy thriller apparently rattles through the plot at such great speed that you’re barely given time to think about it.

The reviews have been universally positive for the play – The Guardian states that it’s “Uproariously jolly and splendidly inventive” – and this rollicking trailer certainly back this up:

People are clearly clamouring for tickets.

The show is currently on a UK tour of the provinces, before stopping off in Edinburgh (which has a cameo in the production).

Book on the bally old interweb now!

Venue: Edinburgh Festival Theatre
Date/Time: Tuesday 18 March – Saturday 22 March, see website for times.
