Nigel Havers stars in Alan Bennett’s espionage-themed double bill, Single Spies at Edinburgh’s King’s Theatre from Monday 24 to Saturday 29 March.
In An Englishman Abroad, double agent Guy Burgess is hiding out in 1958 Moscow. Visited by actress Coral Browne, Burgess pushes her for information about the goings on back in London.
In A Question of Attribution, Sir Anthony Blunt is working as Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures. As he hangs a fake Titian, the question arises of whether the Queen knows that both it, and Blunt, are not what they seem.
First staged in 1988, Single Spies has been dubbed poignant and moving, with Bennett’s trademark wit in evidence throughout.
Directed by Christopher Luscombe, the play also stars Diana Quick and Jack Ryder.
