Film Preview Special: Glasgow Film Festival 2008, 14 – 24 February, Part Three

This is the final part of my rundown of ten films that I think are worth checking out at the Glasgow Film Festival 2008, running from Thursday 14 to Sunday 24 February.

If you haven’t already, have a look at numbers 10 to 8 and 7 to 5 – you might see something you fancy. Otherwise, let’s go on with the show…

4. A one-time poster boy for the indie film industry, Steve Buscemi directs Casey Affleck (the titular Ford in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) in Lonesome Jim (Friday 15, 6pm). Jim has to move back in with his parents after deciding he can’t go it alone and subsequently meets single mom Liv Tyler who could be his road to salvation.

3. Cassandra’s Dream (Thursday 14, 7pm), directed by Woody Allen, stars Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell as two brothers with serious financial problems, forever chasing their dreams. A rare chance to see this film in a UK cinema.

2. South Africa’s Bunny Chow (Friday 15, 8.20pm) sees three comedians and a weird guy named Cope embark on a raucous weekend journey to Oppikoppi, South Africa’s biggest rock festival.

1. Finally, I’d suggest you buy a ticket for The List Surprise Film on Saturday 23 at 8.15pm. You won’t know what it is until the curtains pull back and the projector starts, it could be any length and from any country, but it should be memorable…I hope.

And that’s it. Those are my 10 choices, though there are a number of other treats on offer that I’d love to see, but might not be able to make it across. Head over to the GFF website for the full list.

Agree? Disagree? Have any top tips that I’ve missed? Feel free to leave a comment and let me know.
